Gradescope Workshop Series: August 2022

Gradescope, an assessment, feedback, and analytics tool that integrates with Canvas, is being piloted at Iowa State during Fall 2022. Iowa State instructors can learn more about this tool through a series of vendor-led workshops being offered in August. All workshops are being hosted by Gradescope.

If you wish to use Gradescope, opt-in, and participate in the pilot, please review the Canvas course and fill out the Qualtrics form that you are using Gradescope in your course.

Gradescope for Online & Hybrid Teaching: Online Assignments & Student Uploaded Work

This workshop focuses on using Gradescope with handwritten exams and quizzes and fully online assignments. Specifically, the workshop shows you how to set up assignments, grade consistently with a rubric, provide targeted feedback, and return work electronically.

Gradescope for In-Person Teaching: Templated & Bubble Sheet Assignments

This workshop focuses on using Gradescope with handwritten exams and quizzes and multiple-choice assignments. Specifically, the workshop shows you how to set up assignments, grade consistently with a rubric, provide targeted feedback, and return work electronically.

Gradescope for Computer Science: Programming and Student-Uploaded Work

This workshop focuses on using Gradescope in Computer Science classes with coding assignments and handwritten student work. Specifically, the workshop shows you how to set up a language-agnostic assignment that can include a custom autograder, check for code similarity, and allows you to provide student feedback.

Gradescope for Existing Users: Advanced Gradescope Features

This workshop targets instructors and TAs who are existing Gradescope users and who have attended an introductory workshop. New features and lesser-known tips will be introduced and time will be left to ask questions.

Gradescope in Canvas

This workshop will show you how to take advantage of using Gradescope in Canvas, Iowa State’s Learning Management System (LMS). The focus includes how to sync your roster, course, assignments, and grades.

Gradescope for Multiple Choice: Bubble Sheets

This workshop focuses on using Gradescope to transform multiple-choice assessments with Gradescope Bubble Sheets. The workshop focuses on how to indicate the correct responses for each question ahead of time, which allows Gradescope to automatically grade all student submissions as they are uploaded.

Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor Webinars

This comprehensive training webinar is for instructors who plan to use LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor with online exams. The session provides a detailed demonstration of both applications, including enhancements that make Respondus Monitor even more effective and easy to use. Register thru the Respondus website.

This session will be hosted by Chris Vescovi, a Turnitin Solutions Consultant who has been working in Educational Technology for seven years and has trained ISU faculty previously. Chris will introduce you to the new Turnitin Originality product and integration to be available in your Canvas courses after Aug 16. This version of Turnitin has replaced the older Feedback Studio product. Chris will highlight the differences and benefits of the new tool, demonstrate how to enable it for new and existing assignments, as well as dig into any advanced Turnitin features and best practices you may be wondering about.

Top Hat Training – Two Day Event

Join us for a variety of demonstrations, keynote speakers, and hands-on workshops to become certified (Levels 1 and 2) in Top Hat. 

Sessions will include the Foundations of Active Learning, Digital Learning Experiences that Stick, a roundtable discussion on using Top Hat in large enrollment courses, and more. The full listing of sessions is as follows:

Online Exam Integrity: LockDown Browser Instructor Training

Join us virtually from 1-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1 for vendor-led training concentrated on LockDown Browser.

The agenda for the 30-minute training includes the following:

  • How to use LockDown Browser with Canvas Quizzes to prevent digital cheating in proctored testing environments
  • Instructor settings, including how to use external tools in quizzes without compromising exam integrity
  • The student perspective of taking an exam in LockDown Browser, including installation and troubleshooting
  • Best practices, resources, and tips for success with both applications
  • A chance to ask questions
