New Instructor Learning Community

As a new program this year, the New Instructor Learning Community is open to anyone with a teaching role, regardless of whether or not they are a new instructor or new to Iowa State. Using the newly developed Teaching Toolkit and through community, instructors will build connection across disciplines and demystify the mechanics of teaching through the discussion of effective teaching and learning processes.

Seminar: Team-Based Learning (TBL) Teaching and Learning Community

This topic-based teaching and learning community meets throughout the academic year. We work as teams to optimize application exercises, readiness assurance tests, peer evaluation, and other aspects of course design, and also invite speakers to facilitate discussions of Team-Based Learning theory, research and classroom application. Facilitators: Jane Rongerude, Michael Dorneich, Amber Bellville, and Meghan Gillette.

Join us for TBL conversation and comradery! For our first meeting this spring we will check in and share where we are in our TBL journey. We will also have some time focused specifically on best practices for peer assessment. Peer assessment is an essential component in TBL that is often discussed in terms of accountability, but it is also an important tool for team building and creating a sense of belonging. Facilitators: Jane Rongerude, Michael Dorneich, Amber Bellville, and Meghan Gillette.
