Dr. Awoke Dollisso teaches a 300-level leadership course and wanted to gain insights into his students’ perceived leadership competencies. With an intent of improving teaching and learning, he designed a formative assessment tool on core leadership concepts and gathered data. He was puzzled by the results as they were not consistent with his classroom observations or the student’s work. After some modifications to the assessment tool and testing and re-testing, a surprising and instructive pattern emerged. This presentation will discuss the development, implementation, results and lessons learned throughout the process and its implications to teaching and learning.
