Studio
Studio is an online video learning platform that turns content into conversation, connection, and collaboration. Instructors can use Studio to make videos inclusive and collaborative while gaining meaningful analytics about that collaboration. Studio is a communication tool that allows instructors and students to collaborate actively through video and audio. The ability to easily caption your video takes accessibility in Canvas to the next level.

Getting Started
Studio is located inside Canvas. Log in to Canvas, then click on the Studio icon in the global navigation on the left (in the red bar).

Creating Videos in Studio
To create content in Studio:
- Open Canvas and click the Studio button in the global navigation (red bar on the left side of the screen).
- Create Studio content by uploading existing content, recording with a webcam, or recording a screen capture video.
Note: if you experience internet connectivity issues while uploading a recording made with the screen capture tool and appear to lose your video, it can be recovered!
- Start a new recording and record for at least 1 second.
- Press the Pause button.
- Click Done.
- In the top-left corner of the screen, click Back to Recordings.
- Click on the desired recording.
- Click the green Upload button.
Managing Existing Content in Studio
Once your content is in Studio:
- Make it accessible with auto-generated captions.
- Allow others (to whom you’ve granted access) to comment or reply to prompts.
- Create a video quiz, post the results to the Gradebook, and view the results.
- View user insights and analytics for the video.
- Need to make the video public? Use the public video or embed link guide.
Adding Studio Content to a Canvas Course
Only you can access your Studio videos until you add them to a course.
To add Studio videos to a Canvas course via announcements, discussions, assignments, or pages:

- Create or edit an announcement, discussion, assignment, or page.
- On the text editor, find and click the Studio button.
- Click the video you want to share, choose to allow/disallow comments from others, and click Embed.
- Click Save.
To add Studio videos to your Canvas course via Modules:
- Follow the steps to add the media to the module.
- Rename the link by editing the module item.
Locating Videos that Failed to Upload to Studio
If you created a video in Studio and received an error while uploading, you may be able to recover the video with these steps:
- In the Studio app in Canvas, start a new recording by going to Record > Screen Capture and then choosing Record.
- Stop the test recording after a few seconds.
- Ignore the save prompts and click Back to recordings in the upper left corner under Screen Recorder.
- Choose the recording you are looking for (if it exists).
- Proceed as normal.
Notes:
- If you do not see the recording it is likely that your video is not recoverable.
- It is best to upload videos while using a physical network connection rather than Wi-Fi.

The Canvas Studio tool is supported by Instructure. Use one of the following channels to connect with their 24/7 support:
- live chat — open the ?Help menu in Canvas and click 'Chat with Canvas Support'

Licensing
Studio is built into Canvas and does not require a separate sign-on. There is no additional fee for ISU faculty or students to use the Canvas Studio tool.
