Flipgrid
Introduction
Flipgrid is a video discussion platform allowing instructors to create dynamic, creative and visual class forums that make every student visible and every voice heard. As instructors post discussion prompts, students can create media-based responses anywhere, any time. Video discussions in Flipgrid can connect students with their learning community that is a course, increase participation and engagement and create a sense of belonging. Flipgrid supports self-reflection and assessment, motivates students to speak and provides a flexible and convenient way to create instructor presence in the course.
Flipgrid requires access to a webcam and a microphone, neither of which is a mandate for text-based discussions. Thus, it is essential to have a clear learning objective and purpose in mind when crafting quality discussion prompts in Flipgrid video assignments.

Important information about Flipgrid assignments
When you create a Flipgrid Assignment, Flipgrid will automatically create a new Topic for you and connect it to the Assignment. If this is your first Flipgrid Assignment in that Course, Flipgrid will also create a new Group for the Course and place the Topic there.
You cannot change which Topic is connected to the assignment - this also means you cannot connect a previously-created Topic.
- After creating the Assignment, you should see the Flipgrid Topic embedded into the assignment page.
- If you selected 'Load This Tool In A New Tab', you should see a button labeled Load [Assignment name] in a new window instead - click this button.
- If you see a dialog that says 'Connect Flipgrid to Canvas', go ahead and click Create a Course Group - this sometimes appears when you've created the first Flipgrid Assignment in that Course.
