Document Your Teaching Bootcamp

This intensive training is designed for faculty of all ranks and disciplines to holistically reflect on their teaching and document those efforts. Participants will find this bootcamp especially useful for documenting teaching for promotion, tenure, and professional development.
12:00 – 12:30 pm = Lunch (Provided by CELT)
12:30 pm – 2:00 pm = Writing or Revising Your Teaching Philosophy Statement
Join Karen Menzel, Future Faculty Development Program Specialist (ISU Graduate College) as she helps guide you through the core areas (objectives, methods, evaluation) of writing or revising your teaching philosophy statement. Participants will gain an understanding of how to adapt their statement to reflect personal growth and experience over time.
2:15 – 3:15 pm = Ideas for Documenting Your Teaching Efforts at ISU
Using an ISU-centered checklist, participants will determine areas of their teaching that they have already well documented and discover ideas for additional evidence of good teaching. Attendees will explore ideas for collecting a variety of evidence that tells their holistic teaching story. Facilitated by Paul Hengesteg, Program & Assessment Coordinator, CELT
3:30 – 4:30 pm = ABCs of Preparing Your Teaching Portfolio
The final focus of the day will bring elements of effective teaching together so faculty can organize evidence of their teaching, analyze their effectiveness, and create their teaching narrative. Participants will identify themes in their teaching feedback from themselves, peers, and students and connect them to their teaching philosophy statement.
NOTE: This is intended to be a true “work” shop, so bring (or have access to) your documentation/evidence of teaching and a laptop.
