Syllabus Statement
Add the statement below to the required technologies section of your syllabus.
This course will use MS Teams for synchronous online interactions and group collaboration. Visit the MS Teams learning tool guide to view the terms of service, privacy policy, accessibility statement, and steps for getting started with MS Teams.
Student Resources
Using Microsoft Teams with Your Canvas Course
Students will access course-specific teams through the MS Team (classes or meetings) link in their Course Navigation menu. The first time you launch the application from Canvas, you will be prompted to log in with your Iowa State email address.

MS Teams can provide real-time captions with speaker attribution, making your meeting more inclusive.
Note: Because of limitations to the accuracy of the auto transcription/caption service, if a student requires an accommodation, it is required that a captioning service be used. Contact Student Accessibility Services to arrange/confirm captioning services for your course.
Desktop: Turning Captions On and Off
- Open meeting controls
- Choose More options (which looks like ***)
- Click Turn on live captions
- To stop using live captions, select Turn off live captions.
Mobile: Turning Captions On and Off
- Open meeting controls
- Choose More options (which looks like ***)
- Click Turn on live captions
- To stop using live captions, choose Turn off live captions.
Hide Your Identity in MS Teams Captions and Transcripts
- Choose More options (looks like ***) next to your profile picture at the top of Teams.
- Select Settings.
- Select Captions and transcripts on the left.
- Select the Automatically identify me in meeting captions and transcripts toggle to turn off the option.
Note: Caption data is permanently deleted after the meeting is over.
