Canvas offers several ways in which you can communicate with your students:
- Discussion posts allow for threaded conversations that can benefit the whole class, use the rich content editor which can embed images, links, and videos, and can be shared with specific groups or the whole class. See the Discussions section of Canvas Guides along with CELT’s Discussions Strategies page.
- Announcements can be configured to appear at the top of your course homepage, use the rich content editor, and are sent to the whole class. See the Announcements section of Canvas Guides
- Inbox messages can be to single or multiple individuals, are plain text, and can include attachments. See the Inbox section of Canvas Guides
- Grading feedback is sent to a single individual or group, is plain text, and can include attachments or video. See the Grading Feedback section of Canvas Guides along with CELT’s Interactive Feedback and Grading strategies page.
See the Canvas web guide to change the course homepage. Students must then commit to checking Canvas daily to check for communication or specify their notification settings to alert them via email or push notifications.
Follow the practices located on the Communication strategies page.
