Change IE Security Settings to Enable File Downloads

Download this information as a print-friendly QuickStart sheet (483 KB PDF file ).

By default, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 blocks downloads of files from Web sites—and uses a tool called the Information Bar to alert users when files are blocked. This feature may prevent you from being able to download files from WebCT.

To avoid this situation, you may configure your IE Security Settings to enable Automatic prompting for file downloads.*

1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.

2. Under the Security tab, select Web content zone, Internet.

3. Under “Security level for this zone”, click Custom Level.

4. In the Security Settings panel, scroll down to the Downloads section.
Under the Automatic prompting for file downloads subheading, click Enable.

5. Click OK, on both the Security Settings and Internet Options panels.

6. Close all of your active browser sessions for the changes to take affect.

*NOTE: Changing this setting will allow you to download files from ALL Internet sites. Based on your web browsing habits, this setting may present a security risk to your computer. If you prefer to allow file downloads ONLY from WebCT, you must designate WebCT as a Trusted Site in Internet Explorer.
