Adding Students to your WebCT GOLD Section

1. Section Designers must start in the Build tab to add the Administrative Tools.

Log in to WebCT GOLD, go into your course/section, and click the "Build" tab.
- Click the "Add Content Link" button.
- Scroll down the list of options, and click on "ISU Administrative Tools >>".
- If there are no Admin Tools listed in the inventory, click "Create ISU Administrative Tools". (If there is already one in the inventory, go ahead and select it.)
2. On the Create ISU Administrative Tools screen:
- just give the tool a title.The other settings are locked.
- Click Save and the tool will be added to your Course Content Home Page.

3. Make sure the tool is hidden from your students:
- Click the drop-down action menu.
- Select Hide Item. [The tool icon will then say (Hidden) next to it to indicate that students cannot see it.]
4. Section Instructors can work with the Administrative Tools in the Teach tab.
- Click on the Teach tab.
- Click on the Administrative Tools link or the icon.
5. Administrative Tools Directions
- The first panel of the Administrative Tools displays the Administrative Tools Directions and your WebCT GOLD section name, the (section IMS ID), and the [lcid].
- The (section IMS ID), and the [lcid] are needed for bubblesheet test scoring and proctored online exams.
3. Enroll Section
NOTE: To use this Enroll Section Wizard, you must be a WebCT GOLD Section Instructor AND be listed as an Instructor of Record by the Registrar.
- Click on the Enroll Section tab.
- For each Registrar Section you want to add to your WebCT GOLD section, select the mapping option.
Every night, the WebCT GOLD student database will be updated to match the Registrar's enrollment records. You have the option of letting the system automatically delete students that have dropped the class, or leaving dropped students in the WebCT GOLD Grade Book if you need to keep track of their participation up to the point at which they dropped.
- Click Confirm and you will receive a summary of the Registrar Sections that will be enrolled in your WebCT GOLD section. To complete the enrollment process, click the Enroll Section button below the Confirm Enrollment summary.
- You may repeat this process at any time you would like to make changes to your WebCT GOLD section enrollment.
4. Add Exception IDs to add any students or other participants that do not have ISU NetIDs to your WebCT GOLD section.
- Click on the Add Exception IDs tab.
- Specify an ID entry line for each ID in the following format:
ID, first name, last name, password, email address (optional)
The wizard will automatically add a "w." to the beginning of all Exception IDs. For example the line:
sam,Sam,Perl,12345678,sam@abcxyz.com
will add the Vista ID:
w.sam for Sam Perl with password of 12345678 and email address of sam@abcxyz.com
You may also Upload a text (.txt) file with a list of new exception IDs.
IDs must be unique. For example, if someone else has already added a "w.sam" ID to another course, you will not be able to use w.sam for someone else.
NOTE: After adding the Exception IDs, you must inform each new user of his or her ID and Password. You might also suggest that when new users log in for the first time, they should go to My Settings on their MyWebCT GOLD pages and change their passwords.
