Primers on web-based instruction
This University of Maryland site provides an introduction to different technologies used in web-based distance education http://www.umuc.edu/virtualteaching/. You will find discipline specific examples, descriptions of the technologies, and how the technolgies can support specifc learning theories/strategies.
Penn State has a great site for faculty to get started with teaching using a web-baesd tool. They have two foci 1) designing a web-based course/course component, and 2) teaching a web-based course. Lots of proactical information. https://www.worldcampus.psu.edu:8901/welcome/facdev101/
