Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching

Classroom Observation and Consultation

Maximizing Teaching Effectiveness

One key to enhancing teaching is feedback from outside observers. Any faculty member may visit the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching on a confidential basis to discuss concerns about course design or presentation, course materials (including course outlines, presentation aids, writing assignments, or test materials), diversity or multicultural issues, or ways to overcome classroom problems. A staff member from the Center can also arrange to observe a class, or to have a class period videotaped for consultation at a later time.

These services are offered for professional development only. The Center does not participate in any way with evaluation of individual faculty members for promotion, tenure, or performance reviews. The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is available, however, to help departments and colleges improve the evaluation of teaching.
