What the ISU PFF program does
The PFF program helps participants learn more about the full range of faculty life in research, teaching, and service. Our program offers two seminar and workshop courses covering such diverse topics as grant and proposal writing, intellectual property, learning styles, researching employers, and promotion and tenure. PFF also helps participants find new teaching opportunities and faculty mentors in addition to their major professors.
Partner schools are a core feature of PFF. These are diverse institutions that work together to give participants opportunities to experience a range of student populations and institutional expectations. The partner schools for the Iowa State program currently include Central, DMACC, Drake, Grinnell, UNI, Wartburg, University of Iowa, and University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
A second feature of PFF is mentoring. Faculty from Iowa State and the partner institutions offer one-on-one guidance and practical experience in teaching, service, and research. Participants select PFF mentors other than their major professors, who are already involved in the participants research and program of study within the individual departments.
