Respondus

Respondus is a tool used to create and manage exams, quizzes, surveys, and self-tests that can be printed on paper or published directly to your Blackboard Learn course. You can create, edit, and organize questions in Respondus, offline, and then upload the assessment when youare ready. Iowa State University has a university-wide license for Respondus as well as the sister program StudyMate which allows you to create Flash-based interactive learning activities.

Important Updates

About Your Activation Password for 2013-2014
Each year a licensing institution is provided with a new “activation password” that can be used to reactivate a copy of Respondus and/or StudyMate Author that was previously installed or to install a new copy of the software.

Please note the following:

  1. You can begin using this password information immediately for new installations of Respondus and/or StudyMate Author.
  2. For copies of Respondus or StudyMate Author that were previously installed, users can update their activation password as follows:
    1. prior to August 1, start the application and select File > Update License (if “Update License” isn’t shown, first upgrade to the latest version of the software),
    2. after August 1, upon startup, the software will automatically prompt you for the new password.

Users may need to install the Respondus 4.0.5.05 Patch – Campus-wide Version to be able to connect and publish to Blackboard Learn.

Instructions for Full Installation of Respondus 4.0

  1. Download Respondus.
    On the Download page, please note the exact activation information (including Institution Name, Support Contact, and Installation Password). Go to the Respondus Download page.
  2. Locate the file on your hard drive and double-click it to start the installation program.
  3. Enter the activation information (which can be found by clicking on the “Go to Respondus Download” button above).
  4. Finish installation wizard.

We recommend that you accept the default settings for where the program is installed on your computer.

It’s important to note that you are not able to download the software directly from the Respondus website, nor are you able to use the password listed below to activate a copy previously downloaded from their site.
The file you download is named "Respondus4Campus.exe"

Licensing Agreement Information

Our license DOES permit you to install a copy of the Respondus software on a home computer. However, please note that you are not permitted to provide the Respondus software or the password information to anyone who is not affiliated with our institution. Such an action is a violation of our licensing agreement with Respondus and is also illegal. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity and that you find the Respondus software useful.

Respondus Help

Context-sensitive help is available throughout the Respondus program by pressing the F1 key. It is also available by selecting “Help” from the pull-down menu on the toolbar. You may also download a copy of the Respondus User Guide (in Word/WordPad format) or Quick Start Guides.

If you have questions or problems using the Respondus software, you should first consult the online help or Respondus User Guide.

Respondus, Inc. has an online knowledgebase and ticket-based support system.

The Respondus Test Bank Network contains ready-to-use test banks for the leading textbooks in higher education. The test banks are in Respondus format and can be downloaded using Respondus or StudyMate for FREE by instructors who adopt a participating textbook.
