Creating Interactive Presentations with TurningPoint

Create powerfully interactive presentations with PowerPoint and TurningPoint. These basic functions of TurningPoint will allow you to get started.
For more information about using TurningPoint and Clickers, see the Clicker FAQs, call 295-5357 or email clickerhelp@iastate.edu. We’re here to help!
Creating an Interactive Slide
- Select Insert Slide from the TurningPoint toolbar.
- Choose the type of slide you wish to create.

- Enter the question text and the answer text.
- Graphical representations of the results will automatically adjust to reflect the number of answers you have created.

- Repeat steps 1 through 4 for each interactive slide you wish to have during your presentation.
Convert a Plain PowerPoint Slide into a Interactive Slide
Convert your old, plain PowerPoint slides into exciting, interactive slides!
- Select the plain slide to which you wish to add an interactive element.
- From the TurningPoint menu, click Insert Object.
- Choose a type of chart from the list availbale.
TurningPoint automatically changes your bullet points into numbered responses and inserts the chart type you selected.

- Change the slide title to a question format and make sure the numbered answers are still appropriate.

Adding Objects to Slides
TurningPoint offers several objects that you can add to your slides such as an Answer Now Indicator, Countdown Indicator, Response Counter, and Correct Answer Indicator, to list a few.
- Click the “Insert Object” button and choose the type of object you want to add.
- Click on the object to edit its settings (i.e. amount of time on the countdown indicator, text, etc.).
If you are adding a “Correct Answer Indicator” you need to select the correct answer text first, then add the indicator from the “Insert Object” menu.
- Some objects require an additional click to advance the animation.
It is a good practice to test all new functions before presenting to your class, that way you will know how it works.
Indicating Answers and Assigning Points
Depending on how you are using clickers in your class, you may want to assign a point value to correct answers. It is perhaps easiest to assign point values and correctness to answer choices as you are creating each slide.
The TurningPoint Setting Pane should appear along the right side of your PowerPoint window.
If the menu does not, click the Tools button on the TurningPoint menu and select “Enable Setting Pane” from the list.
From this pane you can assign a point value for correct and incorrect answers. You can also set which answer is correct and the other choices will automatically switch to incorrect.
