PreLead Portfolio Instructions
Student as Learner
This section is an introduction featuring the student as a life long learner. This section will include a general reflection of the self-assessment of the ISSL Standards in terms of change of leadership ideals, and strengths and weaknesses over the course of the program. In addition, the student may include other artifacts that "tell their story" and describe their journey toward a leadership position or role. Students should include a resume in this section.

ISSL Standards Self-Assessment
In this section you will self-assess on the ISSL standards at the beginning, middle, and end of your program. On the left side of the standard skill statement indicate how important you think this statement is to the effective functioning of a building administrator. On the right side of the standard skill statement indicate your present skill level in effectively performing tasks related to this skill.
Following the self-assessment forms, there is a link to the following ISLLC standards. For each section you will include a reflection and artifact.
Standard 1: Vision of Learning
Standard 2: School Culture and Instructional Programs
Standard 3: Management
Standard 4: Families and Community
Standard 5: Ethics
Standard 6: Larger Political, Economic, and Social Influence
Artifacts
Artifacts are examples of student activities (class assignments or field experience activities) or experiences that demonstrate significant learning relative to each standard. At least two artifacts are required for each standard. Select artifacts that demonstrate your best work with an emphasis on genuine experiences where possible. You may include "clean" versions of class papers.
Reflections
At the beginning of each standard you will need a 2-3 page reflection concerning the standard and the artifacts in that section. The reflection should have three parts:
- An in-depth analysis of the standard and indicators discussing the student's thoughts relative to the standard and the student's strengths and perceived areas for improvement in the standard. One common method is to focus on the key terms within the standard.
- Specific future growth plans that will expand the knowledge level and expertise in this area.
- A description of the artifact clarifying the following details:
- what the artifact is
- when or where it was completed
- why the artifact was completed
- the extent of student involvement
- why the artifact was selected for the portfolio
- how the artifact is a demonstration of significant learning -- what did you learn and how can you apply this learning to your future
