6. Description of Service-Learning component:
Students choose from among several projects based on needs of the community and student skills/interest. After one week of intensive Spanish language, students spend mornings continuing with language and culture classes and afternoons at service sites. Journaling and group reflection activities take place throughout the seven-week program. A comprehensive project is due on-site at the end of the experience.

7. How Service-Learning assisted in the fulfillment of learning objectives:
The Service-Learning component provides a setting for students to enhance their Spanish skills, learn about an organization in the community and integrate their understanding of the culture while making a contribution to the community.

8. Students Reaction to Service-Learning:
“Working with the physically and mentally-challenged has taught me a lot about weakness. When they are so open about their weaknesses, it allows me to be open about mine. Even if my Spanish isn’t perfect, I can do my best. Thanks, Rodrigo!”
